Patrick Kirwin is a master Trompe L’oeil painter working within a range of sizes; both large scale murals as well as smaller easel paintings. Kirwin is concerned with the harmony between the architectural reality of the room and the painted illusion of the mural. Whereas, in the trompe l’eoil paintings, he presents an illusion as a reality within the room.
Fabrics play an important part in his strategy of the illusion of space. To heighten this illusion, he has devised methods of making patterns appear to bend within folded cloth. These and other innovative techniques go into creating successful artistic illusions throughout his oeuvre.
