Jason Lucas, founder of Deshu Decorative Surfaces and Lucas Fine Art, is a self taught artist living and working in Denver, Colorado. Born in Southeast Alaska, Jason’s art and surface work is heavily influenced by natural elements found in nature and the traditional designs of Native Alaskan art.
"I love the challenge of trying to recreate the natural erosion of a surface that occurs in nature. The approach I take to my surface installs are that it is an art installation, not a paint job. I always try to develop new and original techniques for every client."
After graduating from the American Institute of Interior Design in Scottsdale, Arizona, Jason established Deshu Decorative Surfaces in 1999. Named after the Deshu Isthmus, near where he grew up. Deshu quickly developed a reputation for having a unique approach to surface design.
In 2002 Jason moved to Denver, Colorado to work for Kelly King’s Faux Finish Institute. Getting the opportunity to work with other artists and instructors furthered his knowledge of Decorative finishing. Jason reopened Deshu Decorative Surfaces and established Lucas Fine Art in 2004. He continues to live and work in Denver in the field of decorative finishing and as a featured artist at Walker Fine Art.
In 2008 Jason Lucas and Anthony Pinkston formed Method Finishing, Inc. an online video resource for training in the art of Decorative finishing. Method launched on October 16th 2009. 2010 plans for Method include guest instructors and hands on workshops with Jason and Anthony. For more information visit www.methodfinishing.com
