As a child, when visiting relatives in Europe, Anita would often tour magnificent palaces and villas awestruck at the exquisite painting and ornamentation of the interior surfaces and furniture, wishing that she had lived back then and could have been part of the decoration. Her heart burned with the desire of being united with these artists and craftsmen, sharing their secrets and their trade.
So she received a degree in accounting. However, that was not to be her eventual destiny. She continued dabbling in art on the side. Painting a mural for her son's room proved to be the impetus she needed to pursue art in a more focused manner. Friends and neighbors started asking for artwork to be done in their homes, and by word of mouth, her business grew to the point where she realized she needed formal education in the decorative arts.
Through this education, she became aware of the Salon. Anita could barely hold back the tears when she realized that there were people alive that could paint just like the old masters that she had admired so many years ago—and, better yet, many of them taught! It became her goal to elevate the quality of her work so she could call these masters her peers. In 2006 her goal was realized.
Anita occupies herself with a variety of commissions, anything having to do with the Italian Renaissance being her favorite. When asked what she likes to do best, she answers, "Everything! If I were to focus only on one aspect, I would become bored. I love the mixture of murals, trompe l'oeil, gilding, graining, marbling, plasters, and faux finishes. It keeps me interested. I always love a challenge."
