Kim Senior has been involved in the arts for thirty years; first as a fiber artist, then as a painter of bas-relief sculptures and mixed media, and currently as a muralist and decorative painter. She received a BFA degree from Concordia University in Montreal; participated in group exhibitions at the Musee d'Art Contemporain, Powerhouse Gallery and others. At this time she began working as a fibre artist in the sculptural tapestry atelier started by her husband Raimond del Noce Senior in Hudson, Quebec.
For ten years Design Senior produced numerous hand-woven large scale commissions for public, commercial and private spaces throughout North America. These projects used innovative off-loom techniques, include works for Aramco, CN, Ducks Unlimited, Gilette, Pfizer, the Shaw Festival Theatre and many others.
In 1981 Kim and her husband moved to Philadelphia and established a joint studio. She began her work in acrylics and mixed media, creating low-relief decorative panels, custom sculpted picture frames and ornaments.
She began her career as a muralist when she designed and painted a 57 foot mural for a spa resort in Stowe Vermont. The scale and excitement of working on such a large scale in a limited time frame was intoxicating, and a second commission immediately after for a private Main Line client for a 500 square foot wall mural for a childrens *playroom* was followed quickly by more projects in the Philadelphia area. She has become adept at working on murals on canvas, for clients from Florida to Texas.
She began making folding screens as a way to enter her murals in the juried annual Philadelphia Furniture and Furnishings Show, which showcases unique, high quality functional and decorative studio pieces, and has participated in the International Salon of Decorative Painters.
Kim is pleased to be teaching 4 murals for the Decorative Painters Apprenticeship Program, at their first venue in Chadds Ford PA.
